Choosing The Right Dance Mat

If you are considering buying a dance mat to play Dance Dance Revolution, In the Groove, Stepmania, or your favorite simulator, this is the guide for you.

Each mat is different, but the common theme is that you have to pay more for better quality.  With that being said, you don’t really need an “expensive mat” when you first start playing.  I will list examples:

BEGINNER to INTERMEDIATE

Dance Dance Revolution Tough Series Training Pad

Style:  “Grooved” mat
Purpose: You can feel where the arrows are with your feet, which will help you learn faster
Cost: $50
Best for: Beginner to Intermediate players
Requirements: Connector cable [PS3, PC, etc.]

Notes: When you first start out playing at home, you don’t want to spend a lot of money. So, the best thing to do is to find a good inexpensive mat to train on. Once you improve or decide you want to play at a higher difficulty (7+), I would recommend an upgrade.
